There are many National Federation of the Blind programs and services to help provide the right tools for your child.
Education Programs
Through our extensive education programs, we present blind students with new ideas, expose teachers and families to our positive philosophy on blindness, and encourage blind youth to reach their full potential.
Early Childhood Programs
Early childhood programs provide young blind children and their families with support and guidance to master the fundamental skills of literacy and independent travel. These programs are Braille Reading Pals Club, Early Explorers, and Santa Letters. Sign up for the early childhood programs.
NFB BELL® Academy
The NFB BELL Academy provides children with Braille and nonvisual skills instruction through fun, hands-on learning activities. Activities are provided in a day program or residential setting, depending on location. The program is designed for blind and low-vision children, ages four through twelve.
It was wonderful to connect with other families in the state who have children who are blind or have low vision. For the first time, I was not scared of my daughter's blindness but felt equipped with the tools to face the challenges the lie ahead head on. Every aspect of the program was incredible and we are already waiting for the next one. I really like how our daughter became more confident in cane travel. NFB EQ (Engineering Quotient)
The National Federation of the Blind Engineering Quotient program (NFB EQ) is a weeklong summer engineering program for blind and low-vision teens from around the United States. NFB EQ is jam-packed with fun and learning. Participants spend each day engaged in activities designed to strengthen their knowledge of engineering as well as their problem-solving abilities. In the evenings, participants explore the local community and participate in various recreational activities. Throughout the week, participants will forge new friendships while increasing their engineering knowledge, problem-solving abilities, self-confidence, and independence. Blind and low-vision teens who are ready to learn new things, meet new people, and have an adventure this summer are encouraged to apply.

Free White Cane Program
No blind person should be without a white cane, regardless of his or her ability to pay for it. The National Federation of the Blind provides a free white cane to any blind individual in the fifty states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico who request a cane for their personal use. Free Slate and Stylus Program
The National Federation of the Blind distributes a plastic, four-line, twenty-eight cell slate along with a saddle stylus to those that need them. That includes those that are blind and low vision who know Braille or want to learn Braille. Learn more and request a slate and stylus.
